• Senior lawyer (1973) and Head of Division (1986) at the Secretariat of the European Commission of Human Rights
• Secretary to the First Chamber of the Commission (1990-1992) and Deputy Secretary to the Commission (1992) and Secretary to the Commission (1997)
• Registrar of the European Court of Human Rights, 1998-2001.
