European Agreement relating to persons participating in proceedings of the ECHR


The European Agreement relating to persons participating in proceedings of the European Court of Human Rights was opened for signature on 5 March 1996 and came into force on 1 January 1999.

The Agreement requires Contracting Parties to ensure that persons participating in proceedings instituted under the European Convention on Human Rights, as amended by Protocol No. 11, enjoy immunity from legal process in respect of their acts before the single permanent Court, as well as freedom to correspond with the Court and freedom to travel for the purpose of attending the proceedings.
