Press releases

All press releases issued by the Registry since 1 January 1999 are available in the HUDOC database.

Press releases are available in both English and French. Some press releases for high-profile cases are translated into non-official languages.

Press releases on Chamber judgments are generally published at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Both Chamber and Grand Chamber judgments are announced in press releases about a week in advance with a short summary of the cases concerned. Upcoming hearings are announced in a press release at the end of the preceding month.

The Press Service has compiled Questions & Answers on cases and themes on the Court’s case-law.

The ECHR and Facebook

The European Court of Human Rights would like to point out that it has no Facebook account and that any account fraudulently using the name “European Court of Human Rights” or its acronym “ECHR”, claiming to represent the Court, is a fake account.

Press conferences

Each year the President of the Court meets members of the press as part of the Court’s annual press conference. The latter, which coincides with publication of the annual report and the opening of the judicial year of the Court, takes places in January, in hybrid format.

On this occasion, the President takes stock of the preceding year and presents key elements of the Court’s annual report, which is published on the Court’s website the same day. The President’s intervention is followed by a questions and answers session with journalists.

Country profiles

In 2010, the Court launched a series of documents called “country profiles” containing key Convention related information for each of the 46 Contracting Parties, presented in a manner which is accessible to members of the general public and the press. These profiles, which are updated on a regular basis, include an indication of the judge elected in respect of the State concerned, relevant statistics, the national budget contribution, landmark judgments and pending cases, etc.
